Our heritage
We’re proud of our strong reputation in the commercial heating and hot water market. And rightly so. We’re old enough to get a card from the Queen.
A history of innovation
In 2014 we celebrated the centenary of our founding company, Hamworthy Engineering. With such a long and successful history of UK manufacturing, Hamworthy Engineering was founded by Percy & Sidney Hall in 1914. Back then it was based on Poole Quay. Our head office is still in Poole today. We were based at Fleets Corner from 1953, but moved our production to Groupe Atlantic’s production facilities in Hull in 2017. In the same year, we also relocated to a new office – just around the corner from the old - including a new show room with all our products.
In the 1960s we introduced modular boilers to the UK. This concept is now used by over 80% of commercial boiler installations.
Since then, we’ve continued to innovate and still believe in the modular boiler concept for best efficiencies. Our newest development, the Upton modular boiler range, can deliver 1MW of output from 1m² footprint. We also have the only ErP compliant cast iron condensing boiler in the UK, the Purewell Variheat mk2.
European knowledge and experience
Hamworthy Engineering split into specialist divisions several years ago and we’ve been part of Groupe Atlantic since 2008. Having close links with a European leader in the heating and hot water industry certainly helps us keep abreast of legislation which affects us in the UK. The Energy related Products directive, (ErP), is one example of European legislation that has an impact in our industry. We are also able to export to many countries in Europe through Groupe Atlantic.
UK expertise
We offer you region tailored support with sales managers and agents across the UK and Ireland, that’s why you can find our boilers and water heaters up and down the country. To name but a few, our boilers heat St Paul’s Cathedral, Cheltenham Racecourse, Aston Villa football club, and Drayton Manor Hotel in Staffordshire. See all our case studies here.
